The Balanced Man Program

This program is what truly separates Sigma Phi Epsilon from any other fraternity. It is our alternative to the traditional pledge-style model of a fraternity. It provides a no-hazing environment where everyone is a full member the day they sign. The BMP emphasizes the long-standing ideal of Sound Body and Sound Mind.

During your entire time at the fraternity you will be given the opportunity to grow and continue development. As an undergraduate, you will progress through four stages. Within each stage your knowledge of the fraternity and its values grow until ultimately you graduate and become an alumnus.  A short description of each stage is below.

  • In the Sigma Challenge, new members are assisted in their orientation to the university, the fraternity, and college life in general. This challenge also focuses on building community among the new member class and the rest of the active members.
  • In the Phi Challenge, members continue to be oriented to the fraternity. Members are instilled with pride and purpose through a detailed overview of history and encouragement to expand their leadership potential by seeking a position in the house.
  • The Epsilon Challenge focuses mainly on readying men for life in the "real world."  Members' skill sets are expanded through a step-by-step educational etiquette dinner, a resume workshop, and further leadership development.
  • The final stage is the Brother Mentor Challenge.  This challenge cements everything the previous challenges emphasized.  It also encompasses assisting the younger members in their efforts to become balanced men.

No matter what stage, SigEp stresses both a sound mind and a sound body. As a result, we provide many opportunities to further physical fitness, knowledge and culture.
